Every child develops at their own pace, but your child may benefit from extra support if they:

• are finding phonics lessons at school difficult.

Beacon Reading’s 30 minute online phonics and reading sessions are fun, engaging and carefully planned to help children make steady progress. We use interactive activities, games and lots of opportunities to practise reading and applying phonics skills. Every child is encouraged to take part in a supportive environment where making mistakes is simply part of learning.

Each group has a maximum of four children.

Keeping groups small means every child has plenty of opportunities to read aloud, join in and receive individual support, while also enjoying learning alongside other children.

Before joining a group, children begin with two one-to-one trial sessions at £25 per session. This allows your child to meet me and gives me time to assess their current reading skills and recommend the most suitable group.

After these initial sessions, we recommend attending twice a week. A block of 10 group sessions over five weeks costs £225, giving you a 10% discount.

Group sessions work well for many children, but we understand that some children benefit from individual support. One-to-one tutoring costs £35 per 30-minute session, or £315 for a block of 10 sessions over five weeks.

As well as seeing the sessions at the time, you'll receive updates about your child's learning, including the skills they've been working on and the progress they're making. I also keep a close eye on each child's confidence and fluency, not just their ability to recognise sounds and words.

I'm Ali, a qualified primary teacher with many years of experience teaching children to read. I've worked with children across EYFS and Key Stage 1 and have a passion for helping every child become a confident, capable reader.

Beacon Reading was created to provide high-quality phonics teaching in small groups where every child feels supported and valued.

Yes. A 1 to 1 trial session is a great opportunity for your child to meet me and see whether Beacon Reading is the right fit. It also helps me get to know your child's current reading skills so I can recommend the most suitable group.

We recommend two trial sessions before booking a block.

Trial sessions are £25 per 30 minute online session. Even if you decide not to continue with Beacon Reading I will leave you with lots of hints and tips to continue teaching reading at home.

If your child can't attend a session, please let me know as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, missed group sessions can't usually be refunded or rearranged, but wherever possible I'll let you know what was covered so your child can keep up with the group's learning.

1 to 1 sessions can sometimes be rearranged for another time by mutual agreement.

Yes. If you attend your child’s sessions, you’ll gradually become familiar with the methods we use and learn how to support their reading more effectively at home.

We’ll also provide resources and activities to help you continue the learning between sessions.

It won’t turn you into a reading teacher overnight - there’s no substitute for 20 years of teaching experience! - but it will give you the knowledge and confidence to know that you’re supporting your child in the right way.
